Gerda Taro, born on August, 1st, 1910 in Stuttgart Germany and died July, 26, 1937. She attended a prestigious- all girls school. she was also a Jewish Emigre. Right when Hitler became chancellor, Gerda Taro met her lover Robert Capa, who taught her photographic technique. Gerda later became more political, and she helped activists distribute anti-Nazi phamplets, which caused her to be frequently arrested. Gerda and her partner were the first photojournalists to be on the scene of the Spanish civil war, which caused them both to become very famous.
Gerda Taros pictures are pictures of people at war. Her graphic simplicity and emotional power make her small pieces of work a memorable chronicle of a complex war. Show the pain and suffering people had to go through. And show peoples devotion to protecting their country, their home and the sacrifices people made.
The major ideas behind the Artist’s work was cause she was motivated by to raise awareness of the dangers of Spanish civilians and the soldiers fighting for liberty. And she did become more political after she met her partner Robert Capa who was a war photographer. She photographed refugees of the war, women and their children in deplorable bivouacs, and children trying to adapt to their lives. Gerda and her lover concentrated on the activities of Loyalist troops attempting to defeat the Nationalist army. Gerda Taro also believed that photographs could change the world, hence she became a photographer and took photographs of the Spanish civil War.
I chose to write about Gerda Taro, because I read a short article about her, and feel like she wasn´t really seen or recognized. And I love and admire her bravery for taking photographs of war, which also caused her death. Her bravery is like none other. And I believe her work is very special and she needs to be recognized. shes also very inspiring and I love that, she knows that going to a war to take photographs is extremely dangerous but she still did, because she wanted to raise awareness of the plight of Spanish civilizans and soldiers fighting for liberty.
